This year's project was a red velvet pirate ship for Captain Cody! As cool as it turned out, this year he actually wanted to dig in after he & his entire party of bucaneers ate their treasure cupcakes & all wanted MORE!

Cody's Pirate Cake
So each year I spend way too much time fussing over the kids' birthday cakes. I was starting to doubt the necessity of this practice during Cody's 3rd birthday. I had spent tons of time obsessing over the perfect dinosaur cake - complete with volcanoes, trees, a lake, & of course, several terrifying dinosaurs. Cody loved his cake so much that the boy who usually devours frosting, didn't want to cut into it. He skipped frosting & cake eating just to keep looking at his birthday masterpiece... It was a done deal after that, I will continue to be tired at each of my children's birthdays & make fun cakes!

It was funny as I stayed up late working on his pirate ship, watching the Olympics that I remembered 4 years ago being up very late watching the Olympics and waiting to become his mom...What a great 4 years it has been!
